National Black Theatre is now opening a season-long  search to uplift and celebrate Black diasporic  visual artists with a call for original two-dimensional paintings, photographs, digital works and mixed media. The search coincides with NBT’s 55th Season, NBT Beyond Walls: Love, A Ritual of Repair.

This year, NBT wants to celebrate a collection of original works that help us illuminate visually illuminate  a common thread of love shared within our theatrical season as it pertains to ideas, notions, and (re)imaginings of sanctuary spaces. We’re inviting modern and contemporary Black diasporic visual artists to participate in this virtual exhibition opportunity to showcase works that explore the notion of sanctuary and challenge the concept of what that sacred space can be.

Sanctuary can be a place, a person, a feeling, or even an activity that shields our harmony, beauty, and rest, by transporting us to a sacred place. 

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout our 22/23 Season. The selected works will be showcased on NBT’s social media platforms throughout the year and may have the opportunity to be amplified as printed material attached to the production run of one of NBT’s dramaturgical lobby exhibitions.

Please submit a 300dpi JPG, PNG or PDF of your artwork. MP4 and MOV files are also acceptable for video submissions.

Artwork and video must be original property of the artist.
