We don’t need an intro here to let you know that Dr. Maya Angelou is one of the greatest writers of our time. So when she speaks, we listen. And this quote on modesty from a 1987 interview with Mavis Nicholson is a lesson for creatives on humility and wisdom.
“Modesty is dangerous, it’s is a learned affectation. And as soon as the modest person gets slammed against the wall by life, modesty will drop off faster than a G string from a stripper.
It’s baloney, modesty.
I hope to be humble. Humility is from within. So that keeps you honest.”
